Ubuntu 26.10 Snapshot 2 Released! New Download Links

Ubuntu 26.10 Snapshot 2, the second monthly development release, was officially announced last night!

The new development release finally added back the .iso image for Intel/AMD platform, and, introduced new cdimage download tree.

The new snapshot release changed the cdimage.ubuntu.com download tree structure. All the release images are now located in /ubuntu/releases and /ubuntu-server/releases. And, the previous releases links still work through 301 redirect.

For Ubuntu releases that are being developed, the daily build images are now located in their own sub-directories, such as /ubuntu/noble/daily-*, ubuntu/stonking/daily-*, /ubuntu-server/noble/daily-*. See the discourse thread for more about the changes.

Known Changes in Ubuntu 26.10

Ubuntu 26.10, code-name Stonking Stingray, is planned for October 15. It’s short term release with 9-month support circle.

As far as I know, it targets Linux Kernel 7.2 and GNOME 51 desktop environment. And, it will probably feature an optional local AI integration, Speech to Text support, minimal secure boot Grub, and full Rust core utilities. The official release note page is ready but still empty at the moment.

Other changes according to the change archives include:

  • KDE Plasma 6.7,
  • LXQt Desktop 2.4.0,
  • FFmpeg 8.1.1, Nginx 1.30.0, Nodejs 24.15, Lazarus 4.6.
  • And many Lomiri (formerly Unity 8) and rust library updates.

Moreover, the missing iso image for amd64 CPU architecture type is added back in this snapshot release. Meaning you can now try it out in native Intel/AMD platform.
