What is Amazon Simple Queue Service (SQS) and How Does it Work?

AWS Simple Queue Service is a fully managed AWS service used to queue messages in a serverless environment. Through AWS SQS, messages can be transferred between different software components, applications, and even to other AWS services running inside the same AWS Account. How Does AWS SQS Work?

Queues in AWS SQS are of two types, i.e., the “Standard Queue” and “FIFO (First in, first out)“. The first in, first out queue processes the messages exactly according to the sequence in which they are sent. In the standard queue, the messages stay in the order in which they were sent, but the order may change while processing. So, the standard queue does not guarantee the perfect order of the messages in the queue:

The messages are sent from the applications and other AWS services. The messages are then stored in the SQS queue, and they stay there in the queue until the consumer asks for the messages. When the consumers (the applications, functions, instances, and services) poll for the messages, the SQS sends them, and then they process the message upon receiving it.
