The Third Snapshot of Ubuntu 25.10 is Available for Testing
Ubuntu 25.10 snapshot 3, the third development release for the next Ubuntu release, is available for testing purpose.
As you may know, Ubuntu introduced monthly snapshot releases and released the first one in May 29. Now, the July release is finally available.
Ubuntu developer team announced the release on the last day of July:
I’d like to announce the third successful publication of the monthly snapshot – Questing Snapshot 3. You can find the images on cdimage.ubuntu.com,
According to the release schedule, there will be the 4th snapshot planned for August 28, and 25.10 Beta on September 18. And, if everything goes well, the final release will be available on October 09.
Ubuntu 25.10, code-name Questing Quokka, is the next short term release that will be support until July 2026.
According to the release note page, it features GNOME 49 desktop, and expected to include Linux Kernel 6.17.
Other features so far include drop GNOME on Xorg session, RVA23S64 ISA profile for RISC-V, TPM-backed Full Disk Encryption recovery key management, and reduced desktop images for Raspberry Pi.
And, according to the road map, it will also include:
- New default Loupe image viewer and Ptyxis terminal emulator.
- Full VRR support in Mutter for users with compatible monitors.
- Better Wayland experience on Nvidia GPUs.
- Fully functional desktop session on RISC-V CPU architecture.
- And more.

For choices, there are 10 official flavors features different desktop environments, including:
- Edubuntu 25.10 for educational use and features GNOME Desktop.
- Kubuntu 25.10 with KDE Plasma desktop.
- Lubuntu 25.10 with LxQt desktop.
- Ubuntu Budgie 25.10 with Budgie desktop.
- Ubuntu MATE 25.10 with MATE Desktop.
- Ubuntu Unity 25.10 with Unity Desktop.
- Ubuntu Cinnamon 25.10 with Cinnamon Desktop.
- Ubuntu Studio 25.10 for multimedia production and features KDE Plasma desktop.
