The 2023 Call for Code program has been launched by Call for Code Creator, David Clark Cause, IBM, the United Nations Human Rights, and the Linux Foundation. This year, the program aims to challenge global developers, students, and startups to develop AI-powered technology projects that will address sustainability issues such as reducing pollution, improving resource management, and protecting biodiversity.

In 2021, the Linux Foundation and the Fintech Open Source Foundation (FINOS) conducted the first annual survey and in-depth study into the State of Open Source in Financial Services. This initial study was important because it was critical to forming a baseline of understanding around what open source activity was taking place within this highly regulated and competitive industry regarding leadership, consumption, contribution, governance, and culture.

This past week, the Linux Foundation lost a dear friend, colleague, and true champion of the open source and energy community. With a heavy heart we share the news that LF Energy founder and executive director Shuli Goodman passed away from cancer on the 3rd of January. Shuli will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all in our community, most especially by her wife Karen, her son Dakota, her soul-sister Lucy, and the many young people whom she helped nurture and grow. Our hearts go out to them at this difficult time.
