Nether Portal: Everything You need to know

Minecraft consists of many different biomes where you can find many unique items for your growth and to progress in the game. But there is one very special biome with the name of nether biome where you can’t go normally. This is where you will need to make a nether portal and, in this article, we will be discussing about it in detail.

How to Make a Nether Portal

Making a nether portal requires you to collect obsidian blocks as without them you can’t make one. But doing this is not similar as getting other blocks in Minecraft. You need to combine lava and water together to make the blocks of obsidian. So, what you can do is to make a bucket and fill it with the water and the find a lava source and drop it on top of it.

After you have successfully made the obsidian block, you need to mine them using the diamond pickaxe which will consume around 9.5 seconds to break a single obsidian block. You need to collect at least 10 blocks of obsidian to make a nether portal. Now let’s discuss each step-in detail to give you a better overview of this whole process and start with making a bucket.

Making of a bucket

You can make a bucket using three blocks of iron ingot and for that you need to first gather three blocks of iron ore and then smelt them using a furnace.

Filled the Bucket with Water

After making a bucket you need to find any water source that you can find in abundance in many biomes such as ocean and plains. Now go close to the water source and hold the bucket in your hand and then right-click in Minecraft Java version. You will notice that the empty bucket is filled with water and now you are ready to perform the next step.

Finding a Lava Source

Just like the water, you can also find lava in almost every biome except the frozen plains. But the chances are higher in the deserts and stony hills, mountains, and caves as they most commonly spawn there.

Now after find the lava source you need to place the water on the top of any block besides the lava source block and then it will turn most of the lava to obsidian.

After making enough nether you are now ready to make a nether portal and you can make one by following the procedure mentioned below:

Step 1: Place two obsidian blocks together followed by any block on the sides.

Step 2: Place 3 blocks of obsidian on each side on Y axis.

Step 3: Place any single block on each side of the obsidian block.

Step 4: Fill the top center gap by placing two obsidian blocks again.

Step 5: Your nether portal is ready, all that left now is to activate it that you can do using a flint and stee. Making it requires you to use one piece of flint and an iron ingot that you can make by smelting iron ore on the furnace.

Activating a Nether Portal

You need to go closer to the nether portal while hold the flint and steel in your hand and then press the right click on any of the obsidian block. This will fill the gap with a purple-colored light showing you that the nether portal is now been activated.

Now all that left is to jump toward the purple light that will teleport you to the nether dimension.

Conclusion

Minecraft has many different biomes with unique items but there is one special biome where you can’t go normally. That biome is the nether biome which requires you to build the nether portal and only then you can reach there. We have discussed everything about the nether portal in detail that will help you in your journey.
