Minecraft Librarian – Profession of Villagers Guide

Villagers are the most useful and versatile Mob in the Minecraft game. Originally introduced in the Beta 1.9 pre-release, these mobs have slowly evolved. Villagers come in all different designs based on the biome they are living in. In 2019, the Villagers and Pillagers update got released and it also brought Professions. It allows these villagers to choose a profession, based on the working station nearby. Players can also trade with them to get different useful items in-game.

Librarian is one of the 15 total professions a villager can choose in Minecraft. In this guide, we will go through what these librarians are and how they are affecting the mechanics of Minecraft.

Minecraft Librarian – Profession of Villagers  Guide

Librarians are a type of villager, who choose Lectern as their working bench. Any village can be assigned a librarian profession (other than Nitwit) by removing their previous working station and placing a Lectern near their bed. They come in all different designs depending on the biome. For instance, Librarian from Snowy Plains looks a bit different from the ones from Savana or Jungle biome as you can see in the image below.

Trading with a Librarian

Trading with librarians is a valuable source for players to get some rare items like Emeralds, Lanterns, Bookshelves, Enchanted books, and even Name tags. The level of the Librarian decides the items it trades.

There are 3 levels of librarians of a Novice Librarian:

  • Apprentice
  • Journeyman
  • Master

On each level, Librarians earn a badge. The Apprentice gets a bronze badge, Journeyman gets a golden badge and the Master gets a diamond badge as shown.

Players can level up their librarians by trading with them. It allows them to get more rare items from Librarians. They can trade those items for Paper, Ink Sac, Books, and Emeralds.

Now generally they do trade these items but it costs a lot of resources, and for that players reduce the price of their items with two mechanics.

  • Using Village Raid
  • Curing a Zombie Villager

1: Using Village Raid

Raids in Minecraft occur when a player kills the pillager with a banner on his head and then visits a village while having that Bad Luck Omen.

Once you enter a village with Bad Luck Omen, this Raid bar will pop up showing that pillagers are coming for attack.

The raid usually looks like this in which a lot of different types of pillagers will attack that village.

It will occur multiple times, but once you win all the Raids, you will see Raid-Victory on your screen.

On the right side of your screen, you will see an Emerald badge showing you won the title of “Hero of the Village” and it is also visible when you open your inventory.

Now you can visit your villagers, especially Librarians to get random gifts and discounts on trades.

2: Curing a Zombie Villager

This is a tricky method but first, you need to find a zombie to try to turn your normal Librarian into a zombie villager (only in Hard Mode you can have a confirmed zombie villager using a zombie). Once you got your zombie Librarian, trap him somewhere, throw a Splash Potion of Weakness on it, and feed him with Golden Apple afterward so that it can be cured back to a normal Librarian.

Once cured you can now trade on discounted rates.

Now you can use your Librarian to get items like Enchanted books (Mending, Infinity, and others.) and Name Tags.

Conclusion

Librarians are one of the most useful Minecraft villagers. They are found in every village and allow players to get items like Name tags and Bookshelves from them by trading. Players can also level them up to get more rare items like Enchanted Book. We can also turn any villager into a Librarian using Lectern. They help the players to get these items so that they can utilize them whenever they require them. It allows them to get progress in their game with ease.
