How to Install and Configure PulseAudio-Equalizer on Linux Mint 21

PulseAudio Equalizer is the open-source audio effects tool, used for controlling volume. It has a multi-band interface that allows you to control and tune the audio. In this tool there are different sliders, adjust the sliders when audio is playing.

PulseAudio-Equalizer is present in the default repository of Linux Mint and can easily be installed from there. Launch the terminal on your system and execute the below-mentioned command to install the pulse audio equalizer on Linux Mint 21:

$ sudo apt install pulseaudio-equalizer

 

Once the installation is completed, run the version command to verify it:

$ pulseaudio --version

If you run the application without configuration, it will display an error. Open the following file on the system:

$ /etc/pulse/default.pa file

 

Next add these lines in the file:

load-module module-equalizer-sink
load-module module-dbus-protocol

 

Press Ctrl + X to save the file and then press Y and press Enter to exit the file.

Next, first quit the pulse audio using the kill command:

$ pulseaudio --kill

 

Restart the PulseAudio-Equalizer via the below-given command:

$ pulseaudio --start

Once you have completed all the steps for installing and configuration, run the equalizer from the following command:

$ qpaeq

 

PulseAudio-Equalizer is the same just like any other equalizer. Click on the preset and move the sliders to adjust the volume while your audio is playing.  You can also use the save button to save presets and the trash icon to delete them, moreover to get back to the default settings click on the reset button.

Removing the PulseAudio equalizer on Linux mint is easy and one command process:

$ sudo apt remove --autoremove pulseaudio-equalizer
