Firefox 141.0 is Available with Less Memory Usage for Linux
Firefox 141.0, a new monthly release of Mozilla’s web browser, is available to download!
The official release note, as usual, is not ready yet. While the official pre-build packages are out along with the source tarball.
The new release can now automatically collect your tabs into groups. It will also suggest group names based on the tabs you selected, helping you stay focused, save time, and reduce clutter. And everything’s done on your device to respect your privacy.
Though, this is a progressive roll-out feature that may be not ready for you.
In the previous release, vertical tabs in icon view (meaning with narrow left sidebar) includes a divider between pinned tabs and opened tabs. The new release also added a divider between tool icons and tabs area. And, you can drag moving the divider to change the size accordingly.
According to the github release page, Firefox 141.0 now uses less memory, though I didn’t see noticeable difference in my test.
And for Linux updating Firefox through package manager (e.g., apt), it does no longer require app restart to apply changes.
In addition, user can now use the address bar as a unit converter. For example, type “35c to f” or “17 to hex”, then it will show you the conversion in pop-down suggestion. And, so far it supports converting units of length, temperature, mass, force, and angular measurement, as well as time-zones.
Other changes in Firefox 141.0 include:
- Enable Address autofill for users in Brazil, Spain and Japan.
- Include Catalan (Valencian variant) dictionary the spellchecker in Valencian build.
- Translation for Albanian, Gujarati, Hebrew, Hindi, Kannada, Malay, Malayalam, Persian, and Telugu.
- Use system font icons for the caption buttons in Windows 11.
- Enable the WebGPU API on Windows.
- And various security fixes.
For developers, the release also implemented the closedby
attribute and it’s related closedBy
, added support Cookies Having Independent. And, it now also clear the back-forward-cache when receiving the Clear-Site-Data: "cache"
response header.
