How To Install Canon MP160 Printer on Ubuntu 24.04
This tutorial will help you install Canon MP160 printer + scanner on Ubuntu LTS "Noble Numbat" 24.04. We will use the free software driver called printer-driver-gutenprint to do so. We will be able to print, scan as well as photocopy on Ubuntu by using this all-in-one Free Software-friendly machine. Now let's start the stuff and quickly use the printer!

How To Install the Driver
1. Run Terminal.
2. Type the following command line and press Enter twice:
$ sudo apt-get install printer-driver-gutenprint
3. Once finished installing, now MP160 printer is ready to setup.

How To Setup the Printer
1. Click Ubuntu menu at the bottom.
2. Turn the printer on.
3. Connect the usb cable between printer and computer.
4. Search for Printers -> click Printers.
5. Add Printer -> select Canon MP160 (printer-driver-gutenprint) from the list.
6. Let the system sets up your printer for a moment.
7. Once finished setting up, MP160 is now registered as new printer on your Ubuntu computer and ready to use.
How To Setup the Scanner
Fortunately, no special setup required for the scanner.
How to Print a Test Page
1. Put a paper into your printer's input paper tray.
2. Click Ubuntu button -> find Printer -> Canon MP160.
2. Click Print Test Page -> your printer should now printing (you should hear its classic printing noise). Done.

How To Scan a Test Page
1. Put a paper onto your scanner's mirror and close the lid.
2. Click Ubuntu button -> find Scanner -> click Document Scanner.
3. Click Scan.
4. Your scanner should now scanning (and you should hear its classic scanning sound).
5. Once finished scanning, a scanned document now should appear on your screen. Click Save to save it as either picture (PNG, JPG) or PDF. Done.
